MAY DAY, MAY DAY!  All was good at The GRAMMY Museum on Tuesday, May 1st for Rock, Race and Radio: A Conversation with Big Jay McNeely, Little Willie G and Art Laboe.  This one night only event was in conjunction with The GRAMMY Museum exhibit: Trouble In Paradise: Music and Los Angeles 1945-1975 which is on display through June 3, 2012.  The exhibit co-curator, Josh Kun, was the moderator for evening, which included lively performances from Big Jay and Willie G with the audience signing along.  Josh played a recording of Art Laboe on the radio in the early 1960s on KDAY and Art didn't recognize himself.  Josh also played Memories of El Monte and Art told the story of how Frank Zappa came to write the song and where he stored his zylaphone for a while (Art's studio).  There was serious discussion as well as many laughs shared.  Thank you to all the music lovers, fans and Art Laboe Connection listeners that joined us for the night!
