January 20th marks the day we lost two Rock and Roll greats.  Just one year ago, we lost ETTA JAMES.  One of the best voices in music.  She could take any song and make it her own.  "At Last", "I'd Rather Go Blind" and "Tell Mama" are just some of her classics that are some of our most requested songs on The Art Laboe Connection.

And fellow pioneering Disc Jockey of the East Coast, Alan Freed.  He became a star of Cleveland radio, then moved to New York, where he popularized the phrase "Rock and Roll".  He became entangled in the Payola scandals of the 1950s and soon after came to Los Angeles.  I suggested he take a job at KDAY, which was one of his last radio jobs.  He passed away at the young age of 43 in 1965.  The Rock and Roll of Fame was established in Cleveland because of Alan Freed's legacy....
