The Funk Brothers are the studio musicians that performed thousands of Motown songs in the tiny Hitsville U.S.A. Studios in Detroit from the 1950s through the 1970s. These unsung musicians played on more #1 hits than any other band in history and made artists like Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Jackson 5 and many others shine! They also performed for Stevie Wonder (above right), who was a guest speaker at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce ceremony. Also guests speakers were Motown A&R expert Mickey Stevenson (2nd photo below), Ray Parker Jr. (3rd photo below) and Motown arranger/co-writer Paul Riser (above with Stevie Wonder).
There were originally 13 Funk Brothers and Jack Ashford (in black jacket above) and Eddie Willis (in red above), two of the three survivng members, were on hand to accept the honor of a star on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard along side the stars of famed musicians Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Herbie Hancock and across the street from Live Nation.
The Funk Brothers music has stood the test of time as so many of their hits are some of the most requested on The Art Laboe Connection....Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby Love, For Once in My Life, The Tears of a Clown, What’s Going On, You are the Sunshine of My Life, Papa Was a Rolling Stone just to name a few.
To The Funk Brothers, CONGRATULATIONS! this honor is well deserved and THANK YOU for so much wonderful music!!

3/14 adds up to a day to celebrate a mathematical constant known as PI. In addition, many legends were born on this day: friend and former Hot 92.3 Morning Show host RICK DEES (pictured above), producer of E = mc2Albert Einstein, comic Billy Crystal, both turning 80 are artist/music producer Quincy Jones and actor Michael Caine and also turning a year older Chris Klein, star of American PIE. So to celebrate, we could watch that video or the Oscar nominated movie Life as Pi and serve up some PIE?!?
And Tony Sandoval points out that 3/14 is also National Potato Chip Day, click here to munch on...
LET'S EAT !!!
