Me and my girls, Mo and Drea

Gettin to know who I am...
I studied at the University of Michigan, and before radio, worked in juvenile probation... but I got frustrated with not being able to change the world!!!  I knew I had two choices... politics or entertainment.... leave it to me to find a way to do both.. I have worked in Los Angeles radio for 17 years.. many people remember my "slo jam show" from the 90's where I was known as the "angelita de la noche".... it was the most fun I ever had in radio..... Now I work at the station both on air and as the community affairs director... the perfect blend of politics and entertainment!!! smile... Although my mind tells me its time to go on to other things.. my heart wont let me leave my promise to fight for the community... my community.. your community.... our community.. That's why I am always interested in what people want me to investigate.  I have learned to have a huge voice and carry a "big stick"... let me help uncover or celebrate what's going on in your neighborhood.

I look forward to developing a television show that will reflect my passions in radio. I think LA could use it's own 60 minutes don't you?

I now divide my time between radio, writing books/ screenplays and   my biggest job is raising my eleven-year-old son, Melan.  I am also actively involved in raising Melan's brother, Darius. His mom, Taleya and I work together to give our sons the best life possible. I know it sounds strange  but we are very good friends who understand that making our sons the best men they can be is what is important. This is a picture of Melan running at the track finals at Notre Dame in the valley.  He is  running like a track star and comes by it honestly as his momma was a track star!!!!

As a manager, I  successfully shaped the careers of many artists and producers, most notably Grammy award winner Coolio.  I left managing behind in 2006 after 12 years.

Here is a picture of my angels.... on the left you will see my daughter and myself...  a fur add I did in 1981... coat was so nice I kept it!! then 15 years later.. 1996.. the photo on the right.. my son and I.... hahah.. look at the coat.. all beat up... no color.. but your girl hung in there!!.. So here is an example of a new generation of moms.. those of us who had children very young... We will be (god willing) able to experience seeing our children have children. I know there are a lot of women out there just like me.. who spent their  late teens and twenties raising babies while we were growing up ourselves. I believe I can get a HUGE AMEN that it is not easy to be a mom and we, the women who have come before you, encourage you to WAIT to have children.    Don't get me wrong.. it took more guts and courage than you can ever dream of to have a child in college... That is why I fight so hard for young women to stay AWAY from having babies too young..  I was blessed to be able to  get through school and make a great living for myself..You could even say I lead a life people dream of.. somehow I managed to do it all...... and it was still hard.. Harder than anything I have ever done.... Enjoy your teen years and twenties with no responsibilities!!!!  I wouldn't trade my angels for anything in the world.. But I will come and lecture any group of young women and show them 1000 reasons to stay on course with education... and living their own life.. without extreme responsibilities .. until they have experienced life more..

You can also look for my book, "101 Things To Know Before You Date My Daughter, My Best Friend or Me!" It is a book I wrote based on my talking to thousands of people over the years about relationships and love.  I took all of the things I learned and put them in one book.. good for both men and women.. married or single... Dr. Gilda Carle (Nationaly acclaimed relationship expert)  said my book was incredible.  I am giving 100% of proceeds to various charities and causes I support.  I am currently working on three books.... yes three books at once. One of them is a steamy novela so keep checking back and I will post little tease pieces as I get them...

I currently am  your morning show news anchor Monday through Friday from 5 am until 9am bringing you all the news, traffic and community events" and the Community  Affairs Director and host/writer/producer of the Community Review.  I truly love fighting for those who cannot, or just don't know how to fight for them selves. But it isn't always about the fight. There is plenty to celebrate in our neighborhoods. Help me do that. Let me know what is going on in your life, your neighborhood, your business. Keep my motto of the last 17 years in your head "Stay strong, stay focused and most of all, stay informed!!!!!".  Ignorance is NOT BLISS.

TODAYS NEWS RECAP:
**********************************************
Your daily update on the race for the "Big House"
in DC:

A new poll showed that nearly half of those surveyed are
already tired of hearing about Barack Obama
-- and
Election Day is still three months away.

48 percent say they're hearing too much about Obama,
while just 26 percent say the same about John McCain.
Two-thirds of Republicans and about half of the independents
surveyed say they've heard too much about Obama, as
well as a third of Democrats.

************************

There has apparently been some fierce behind-the-scenes
squabbling between the Clinton and Obama camps over
how to recognize Hillary Clinton and her achievements
in the primaries without overshadowing or detracting
from a Democrativ National Convention that belongs to Barack Obama.

Clinton told supporters last week that she wants their voices to be
"heard" and "respected" at the convention - and did not rule out
the possibility of having her name placed into nomination alongside
Sen. Barack Obama's
.

Hillary is quick to point out that no decisions have been made.
She and her staff of supporters are trying to work all this through
with the DNC and with the Obama campaign.

A spokesman for Obama downplayed any tension between
the two going into the convention this month.

Some Democrats say Denver convention organizers will try to avoid
the lingering questions if Edwards himself doesn’t talk.

According to Gary Pearce, the Democratic strategist who ran Edwards’
1998 Senate race, “He absolutely does have to [resolve it]. If it’s
not true, he has to issue a stronger denial.

“It’s a very damaging thing. ... The big media has tried to be
responsible and handle this with kid gloves, but it’s clearly getting
ready to bust out. If it’s not true, he’s got to stand up and say,
‘This is not true. That is not my child and I’m going to take legal
action against the people who are spreading these lies.’ It’s
not enough to say, ‘That’s tabloid trash.’ ”

As days pass, Israel is worrying more about Iran's nuclear
 capabilities
.

Reports say Israel is building up its strike capabilities
and seems confident that a military attack would
 cripple Tehran's atomic program
, even if it can't destroy it.

Not only is Iran refusing to accept Western conditions,
but Israel is worried about the perception that
Washington now prefers diplomacy over confrontation
with Tehran.

The Jewish state has purchased 90 F-16I fighter
planes that can carry enough fuel to reach Iran, and
will receive 11 more by the end of next year. It has
bought two new Dolphin submarines from Germany
reportedly capable of firing nuclear-armed warheads —
in addition to the three it already has.

And this summer it carried out air maneuvers in the
Mediterranean (which could've been a "dress rehearsal"
for an imminent attack, a stern warning to Iran or a just
a way to get allies to step up the pressure on
Tehran to stop building nukes.)

Morgan Freeman and his wife of 24-years are
getting a divorce. The actor’s longtime business
partner (Bill Luckett) delivered the news just days
after Freeman was involved in a serious accident.

The pal says Freeman and his wife "are involved in a
divorce action" and “have been separated since December
 of 2007.”

The couple met in 1976 when both were working off-Broadway.

(Freeman, of course, was in a car accident over the weekend,
and his female passenger, identified as Demaris Meyer,
has been described as a friend.)

Well-wishers can blog him at: http://www.planitnow.org/morgan/

Ohio racked up four of the 10 cities on Forbes list:
 Youngstown, Canton, Dayton and Cleveland.

Michigan has two cities--Detroit and Flint--making the ranking.

IMPORTANT SUMMER SWIMMING INFORMATION:
A 10-year-old Goose Creek, South Carolina boy died
several hours after he swallowed water in a
swimming pool.
The boy swallowed some water
while swimming in a pool at his apartment complex.

His folks said he complained that he was tired and took a nap. When
someone checked on him, water was coming out of his nose
and he
was having trouble breathing. The boy ended up dying.

The coroner said the boy's lungs were filled with water.

According to the experts, not all drowning deaths happen immediately.
Secondary drowning can occur as much as 72 hours later and without
any warning signs.

Docs say parents should be on the look out for symptoms of respiratory
or breathing problems, coughing and a "raspy" voice, as these could be
signs of lung injury.
