Most people know the movie La Bamba because it depicts the story of legendary singer Ritchie Valens. La Bamba is a tear jerker in the end, but it definitely is a classic that is a MUST SEE.
Donna's Dads cruel joke - 1950 Ford Custom; "Bobbo's Gift to Ritchie - 1959 Ford Thunderbird; Bob's fix-up car towards the end of movie - 1948 Packard Super Eight; The Ice Cream truck - 1953 Chevrolet ½-Ton; Rudy's ride - 1955 Pontiac Chieftain
Women have been known to endure an enormous amount of pain- whether it’s thru the blessing of giving birth, a broken heart from a jerk, and/or…well, who are we kidding, it’s hard to be a woman in general. However, when a woman signs up for the pain, such as ROLLER DERBY, than you know you can’t help but watch.
I got to meet the adorable “Vodka Tonic” who was kind enough to invite me not only to an opening game, but also a scrimmage for some video. “Vodka Tonic” has been in the game for several years- something she considers her “therapy” in life. With a full time, demanding job in a well known company, she still makes the time to participate in the sport and run the PR for the ‘LA Derby Dolls’.
The league itself is across country and is open to women of all backgrounds. They do a lot of charity work and give back to the community. The hours committed are strict and the uniqueness in names is a MUST!
The ‘LA Derby Dolls’ are kick a%$! On every tournament they get about 1,500 to 2,000 spectators. The scores keep you on your toes and the hits are intense! They are definitely not for the weak and ANYONE that has attended a roller derby event knows that these females are hardcore.
Even if you don’t know much about the sport; the famed all-female, banked track league definitely gives you your money’s worth- bruise free. They offer alcohol inside (21 & over) and they have a few lunch trucks on the outside venue so you can grab a good bite to eat beforehand. This is a great way to spend a weekend date!
